Recoup sales data
Groupon run an enormous analog operation where discounted goods are purchased and redeemed without any transactional data being recorded at the merchant’s end (many deals were redeemed by printed coupons). The untapped wealth of information needed to be recovered for the company’s future services.
Delivering a Trojan Horse
For the first time ever, Groupon went into hardware design with the goal of delivering a point-of-sale unit to be given for free to merchants. The goal was to finally measure the success of those deals and provide the data as valuable business insights.
An easy-to-learn business appliance
A 360º solution for SME: POS, deal redemption, business & customer insights. All are packaged in an inexpensive hardware platform and have a friendly form factor (transformable from desktop to handheld by removing a center pin). We were part of branding, software UI, and hardware design (including UX patents). We also introduced persistent forms that defined the Groupon brand across multiple models.
